Blood Vessel Building, Angiogenesis And Healing

This episode of the Stem Cell Podcast discusses the regrowth of blood vessels with Dr. Josef Penninger. Currently a professor at the University of British Columbia's Life Sciences Institute, Dr. Penninger has previously researched at Vienna Biocenter.

The first 26 minutes of the Podcast are news content from the host about new developments in stem cell biology and their medical applications. Penninger brings up that his work was inspired by no one yet having successfully made blood vessel organoids.

In his lab experiments, Penninger found that the blood vessels could be grafted to a mouse circulatory system and were robust enough to function in the living mouse.

In this fascinating podcast, the host investigates the possibilities of human blood vessel replacement and its current progress in model organisms. Research like this in combination with surgical techniques developed to perform the replacement of blood vessels could be a revolution in medicine. It could dramatically reduce the prevalence of one of the most pervasive causes of death in the modern world.
