An Unmediated Hospital Birth & A Bliss-Filled Home Birth

Back in June, I wrote about Katie Vigos: a Los Angeles-based nurse who, after getting pregnant with her third child, decided to document the pregnancy and birth through Instagram (Empowered Birth Project) with the intention of encouraging and educating future mothers, husbands, doulas and midwives. Shortly after, her page got banned and Katie began a hard fight against Instagram’s and Facebook's decency policies.

After years activism, Katie managed to eliminate the restriction — today, her page continues to promote all different types of uncensored pregnancy and birth stories from all kinds of women.

Midwife Elizabeth Bachner created Big Birth Junkie in May 2018 with the intention of sharing pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum experiences from all different viewpoints through storytelling and conversations with pregnant women, their partners, doulas, doctors, midwives and family. In this episode, Katie Vigos narrates the stories of her first two births: the first, when she was twenty-two years old in a hospital where she felt unsupported and stressed; and her second birth, which happened in the comfort of her own home.

Apart from being highly educative, this show is hilarious and it will manage to make you laugh, tear up and smile through one entire hour. If you're a future parent, plan to be one or know someone near you who is, this is an episode you should not miss.
